My Natural Hair Marriage And Commitment

Natural to Relaxed hair is a matter of preference that begins with a relationship and ends with a marriage, Let me explain....

When I first did my transition from relaxed to natural hair, I went into it with blinders on. At the time I worked  in a hair salon. I hardly ever touched my own hair. We would make time every Friday night to work out each others kinks. At this time I had no goals for my natural hair, we were acquaintances, however still strangers. When I left the shop I was on my own with this strange pile of natural hair that I had never gotten the chance to build a relationship with. My friend, and stylist at the time was the only one dating my hair and providing most of it's needs. Although I had graduated and earned teaching hours in cosmetology, natural black hair was not in our curriculum. Unless you count the lessons in relaxing or pressing kinky hair.

When I receive letters asking me of my opinions on natural verses relaxed hair I try to remain impartial. I love my natural hair. I love the fact that I made the decision and I'm sticking by it this time. It's a personal decision like getting your tubes tied or using fabric soften. Neither is nobody's business.

So in conclusion, I love MY natural hair. I have a relationship with my hair, I had to get to know it first. There was a courtship, engagement and then a commitment. My marriage is between me and my hair :)

I ♥ this post! We have similar relationships. You see, my bff is a hair stylist. She took care of my hair. Not only did I have great relaxed hair but long hair, medium hair, and even had cut it low. I even danced with a few colors & highlights...then she moved to MD (after marrying) and opened a shop there. I was left alone with this...hair. Before I knew it...I was relaxing my hair less. In a sense, I accidentally went natural.
While I'm use to, love, and appreciate my relationship with my natural hair, I don't diss, hate, or worry about what the next woman does to her hair.
Great post

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's been weighing heavy on my heart and I plan on doing a video on this subject really soon. Thanks again!
